Think You Can Be Righteous?

“Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.” -Psalm 5:8

Don’t we try so hard to be good people? This is rightly so, because God wants us to be pure and upright so that we can lead others to Christ and be an example of his love. There’s a problem, though - we’re just not good people. Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:10 says, “None is righteous, no, not one.” Even when we do good things, it still doesn’t make us good people because “...all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.” (Isaiah 64:6b)

No, we can’t make ourselves good. But we have a God who can. God is our source of sanctification. When we accept his salvation, we begin a cleansing process. This isn’t our own doing (Ephesians 2:8); it is the miraculous work of God. All we have to do is let go of trying to control our lives. Don’t hold back from what God is doing in your heart. It will seem painful at first (Hebrews 12:11), but it will bring about righteousness.

This is much easier said than done, especially when people try to lead us in a different direction, but God will help you. Pray with me as I pray through Psalm 5:8: “Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies; make your way straight before me.”

Make this your prayer as you start your day each morning. This is an easy way to begin the iDevo 30 day challenge, and it will make all the difference in the world.
