The Final Farewell, Instruction, and Encouragement from Paul

“...The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.” -Romans 16:20

This chapter is Paul’s final farewell and instruction to the believers in Rome and it covers a lot of important information I like in his final farewell how he mentions someone. Phoebe. Who is she.? Was she the one who personally delivered Paul’s epistle to the Romans.? Yes and she was the first recorded woman to hold a position of responsibility within the congregation. That’s pretty awesome. It’s also interesting that of the first five believers mentioned by Paul in the first verses of this chapter, three of them were women. When it comes to service for Christ and His assembly, women in no way take a second place to men. They are "heirs together of the grace of life"-1 Peter 3:7 and at Christ’s judgment seat their faithfulness will be rewarded. When it comes to laboring faithfully for God, there is neither male or female in Christ. Galatians 3:28 says, “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”  We all serve the same Saviour as His love-slaves equally, though in different capacities.

We also see in this chapter Paul is affectionate toward the believers in Rome as he gives final coaching to watch out for false doctrine and teachings and those who would cause division among them. -Romans 16:17 This day in age. It is important for us to be on guard.  Jesus warned us in Matthew 7:15  and in His discourse on things to come, He warned again in Matthew 24:4-5, “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.” Paul was constantly battling false teachers who hounded his steps and perverted the truth of the gospel.-2 Corinthians 11:3-15  As he thought of his many dear friends in Rome, he didn’t want them to be led astray. His love for them prompted him to insert this warning against the dangers of false teachers.

He also reminds them that the enemy will soon be crushed under their feet and that His gospel is able to hold them until the day of Jesus. What a way to end with such great encouragement. The enemy is DOOMED! Thank you Lord. With the Holy Spirit leading us, and God’s word empowering us, and with the God given authority we have been given. We will crush the enemy under our feet.

Romans is an amazing book and will bless all who read, understand and enjoy this wonderful message of Jesus. I pray that you have be blessed and inspired reading and studying the book of Romans with us.

And in closing…..

“Now all glory to God, who is able to make you strong, just as my Good News says. This message about Jesus Christ has revealed his plan for you Gentiles, a plan kept secret from the beginning of time. But now as the prophets foretold and as the eternal God has commanded, this message is made known to all Gentiles everywhere, so that they too might believe and obey him. All glory to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, forever. Amen.” -Romans 16:25-27
