Put On Christ

(Read Chapter 13)

“Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy, but put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” Romans 13:13,14

You can tell a lot about people from the clothes they wear. The clothes that we choose to wear often reflect our status, our values, and even our priorities. At Hollywood red carpet events reporters often ask actors and actresses "Who are you wearing?" to find out which designer created the clothes they are wearing.

In the ancient world clothing had a similar significance. It could reflect a person's socioeconomic status, mood, or even their character. The New Testament uses clothing imagery to describe different, but closely related, aspects of our relationship with God. It emphasizes our union with Christ.- Galatians 3:26-27, It portrays the transformation that results from our relationship with Jesus Christ. In contrast to living a life of disobedience to God and his ways. -Romans 13:13, and clothing imagery describes the transformation of our bodies that will take place when we are resurrected from the dead. Paul explains that "this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality"-1 Corinthians 15:53

Who are you wearing.?

Clothe yourselves with Christ Jesus and live as his children in this present world. We are to submit to authorities and to pay respect where it is due. As believers we have put on Christ by virtue of trusting in who Jesus is and what he has done for us but we are also called to put on the character qualities and virtues that reflect our identity as being a child of God. We should pursue this goal in anticipation of the day when we will take off our mortal bodies and put on resurrected bodies that fully reflect Christ.

We are to awake from our slumber and serve the Lord out of love showing that we are included in the light of the gospel. Love is binding and obligatory on believers. Any lack of love is lawlessness and rebellion. Romans 13:11 says, "Do this knowing the time, that now now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed."

You Already Are Children of God—Now Dress, Live, and Fight Like It to show the world you are a child of  God. You are already God’s chosen ones, God’s holy ones, God’s loved ones. Now he says, put on the character that reflects your new identity.

It's time to change your clothes!
Put on The Lord Jesus Christ.
