Set Free!

A Walk With Romans (Read Chapter 6)

Set Free!

Romans 6:6-7 “We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin."

The entire chapter of Romans 6 is about the power of sin in our lives being broken by Christ. We have been set free, those chains of bondage to sin are no more!

So many times though, as believers we can struggle with sin. Those temptations and struggles we had before we gave our lives to the Lord can creep back in. So what do we do, what happens when we stumble and fall?

The truth is we must first realize that the power sin had over us is no more. Those chains are broken and while satan may try to tempt us with a past struggle it is something we can overcome. Maybe you have made a mistake recently or fallen in to a struggle with sin. Don’t be discouraged, seek God’s face and place your focus on Christ. Get back up, make today one of renewed commitment, and remind satan that you are no longer a slave to sin but that you are a child of God who has been freed from sin.

Second, we must be prepared. You see the tough thing in life is that when we are not careful sin can easily creep back into our lives when we are tired or at our weakest. If you think about it, satan tempted Jesus three times in the desert and when he failed, he decided to come back at a more opportune time. (Luke 4:13) It is the same way with us, things can happen that make it easier to stumble or fall but we must remember that no matter what your struggle, God has prepared a way out of it. We must remember to stand on the word of God as Jesus did in Matthew 4 & Luke 4) which means daily putting that word in our hearts by reading it and we must remember that sin no longer has any power over us.

Romans 6:22 “But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life.”

Take up the challenge to make the commitment to seek God first. That means spending time each day in prayer, worship and reading the Word of God. The one thing I have found out in life is that I am not tempted when I am grounded in Christ. When worship music is blasting and I am around other believers there is no struggle, it is only when I am not grounded in Christ, when I haven’t prayed, or spent time in the word, or I’m alone that the struggle is real and a lot harder. Take some time today to pray the prayer below and renew your commitment to Christ and in making sure those chains of sin stay broken.

Lord, forgive me for the mistakes I have made and the sin I have allowed in my life. I make the commitment today to run into your arms, to be free of the chains and bondage of sin. I thank you Lord that you have saved me and that you died for me paying the price for my sins. I commit my life to you and I surrender it to fulfill your plan and purpose for my life. Strengthen me as I commit to daily read your word and pray and help me to serve you faithfully each day. I love you Lord. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
