“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” -Romans 15:7
Do you know why we are called Christians? A Christian means someone who is like Jesus Christ. It literally means “little Christ.” That means that Christians should be people who are like Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was someone who was loving, generous, wise, strong, serving, and a man who sacrificed everything for people that didn’t even know him.
Are you like that? Do you love everyone, regardless of whether or not they like you? Do you serve other people as if they are better than you? Do you give more than you need to? Do you look for wisdom and share it with other people? Do you have courage when life is terrifying? Are you willing to sacrifice yourself for people that hate you?
One of the most difficult things to do like Jesus is to forgive like Jesus. Jesus welcomed all of us as children of God through his death and resurrection. He did not exclude anyone. As long as we accept his gift of salvation, everyone can be a child of God. This is what Jesus did for you; even though you were a sinner who was far from God, Jesus died for you, welcoming you as God’s child. Do this for others. this is what Paul means when he says, “Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” When we act like Christ, God is glorified. Do not exclude anybody from your love. Be welcoming and forgiving of all people, no matter how they have wronged you.
I know this is hard sometimes, but we have the Holy Spirit to help us. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you strength and love. Have you read Galatians 5:22-23? It tells us all of the things that we will have when we have the Holy Spirit. When we have these fruits of the Spirit, then we can be like Christ to others.
