Psalm 1:2-3 But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.

Have you ever thought about the plants and trees around you, maybe even in your yard? For something to grow it requires three things. Good soil to be planted in, water/nutrients, and the right amount of light. Without these three things plants and trees will eventually wither and die.

We are very similar as believers we have certain things we need to grow and thrive otherwise we too could wither and die. First we need to be planted in good soil. That means finding a youth group, college group or church where you can come in contact with other believers and grow together in your faith. If you uproot a tree out of the ground, eventually it will die just like we will be more likely to sin when we are not around fellow believers.

Next we need to be nourished. If a plant or tree never gets water or any nourishment it eventually dies. The Bible is our nourishment and like a tree planted by a river, a place with plenty of water. When we are rooted in God’s word and we meditate on it we grow, flourish and have life. The Bible gives us our weapons for dealing with sin and temptation. God has already given us what we need but we have to daily open the Bible’s pages if we truly want to be nourished.

Last we need light, more specifically we need to have God who is light as a part of our lives. This means prayer and spending time daily talking to God. If you put a plant in a dark closet, eventually it will die from not having contact with any light and when we are continually away from God’s presence we too can struggle spiritually and no longer grow.

No matter where you are at in your walk with Christ there are three important things needed to grow. So make sure you are planted in a Bible believing church or youth/college group and you daily spend time in God’s word and in prayer. The YFA team wants you to take our September 30 day challenge and make a commitment for the entire month of September to daily open your Bible and meditate on God's word and spend time with God in prayer. See where God takes you, you’ll never be the same.
