“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength” -Mark 12:30

The Bible does not lay out a step-by-step order for family or relationship priorities. However, we can still look in the Bible and find the general principles for prioritizing. God obviously comes first: Deuteronomy 6:5 says, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” All of your heart, soul, and strength is to be committed to loving God, yep...that makes Him the first priority.

Whenever our priorities are out of order, it means we are  placing something else above God and that is idolatry. The bible says, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness” -Matthew 6:33.  When God is the forefront of your life, it is much easier to put everything else in place. He gives us the love and devotion we need for our families, friends, school, work, and the abilities for our ministries.

The enemy can use our activities, duties, and responsibilities to crowd our schedules, I know that first hand. It makes it seem impossible to do all you want to do or even need to do. We know that we need to find time for necessary activities, praying, devotion, sleeping, working, eating, hygiene, and traveling. But there are many other things that the enemy uses to crowd schedules for some —sports events, television viewing, music listening, home upkeep, visiting, shopping, unexpected extra responsibilities and education.  Many of us feel overwhelmed when we consider all of these time-consumers! John 10:10- The enemy will use all kinds of things to hinder where our focus should be and try to get our priorities out of whack.

Remember to keep God FIRST know matter what and to always have your time with Him. I want to live the abundant life not the consumed with junk life. The good news is, we don’t have to settle for a life crowded with the junk. In Christ, we can enjoy our lives—abundantly! The key to having God's 'abundant life' is keeping Him in His rightful place in our priorities, FIRST!

My house and yard were out of order for some time because of a lot of added responsibility that caused me to need more of God on a daily basis. None of it mattered to me because of the need I had to be with Him just in order to make it through. Some days I would spend up to 3 hours every morning in prayer and devotion with Him.  Remember Mary and Martha. We need to get our priorities in order and know what matters most to God and that is our relationship with Him.

As much as I enjoy looking through the magazine, my goal is not a Southern Living home but a home where God is above all and people are more important than perfection.  If it is necessary cut back and eliminate the things in life that aren’t important.  God knows us better than we know ourselves and He has made His will known to us. “He Himself  will come to have first place in everything” -Colossians 1:18

Don’t neglect your relationship with Him.

Pray about what your real priorities are for the day. Make it your goal to have a deep, intimate relationship with God. Let Him into every area of your life. Become the wise, strong, godly, and spiritual man or woman God created you to be, who has godly priorities that please and glorify Him.

Make Him Your First Priority!
