Grace for Failures

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. -2 Peter 3:18

Despite my intentions, after a few days I tend to revert back to my old ways. I know there are changes I need to experience and there are things God has brought to my attention that He is working on. That doesn’t make it easy. The sad thing is in the process I’ve struggled to correct the things He has asked me to. It’s His strength that gets us through and even though I know better, even though I know that reverting to my old ways regardless of what He has revealed is necessary for my spiritual growth, I neglect it. I fail. Constantly. I can just imagine the disappointment in His voice. I can tell you this, I know the deeper I get into knowing and experiencing God one thing becomes more and more clear. That is, all that I am, all that I ever have been, and all that I ever will be is totally one hundred percent a result of God’s awesome grace. Every failure I experience causes me to humbly become more dependent upon God's grace.

What is so amazing about grace? Grace is more than second chances, surprises, and unmerited gifts. Grace comes in our inability and failures, and provides radical changes and a shift. Grace gives us new opportunities and a fresh revelation. It is His Grace that will transform us.

Ephesians 2:1-10 says “And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.  But God, who is rich in mercy (compassion), because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

Though we may disappoint Jesus time and time again, He has limitless compassion and grace for us. And He still chooses to use us as His representatives on earth. What an amazing God we serve.

Dear Jesus, forgive me when I neglect to work on the things you have asked me to change. I pray that You would give me the discipline and the desire to grow to be more like You.  I want to experience Your presence in a supernatural way, and I want Your Love to flow through my heart and reach out to touch others. Thank You that despite the times when I fail, You still choose me to be an agent of Your kingdom, a messenger of light to this world. Thank you for your Amazing Grace. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
