Your Actions Demonstrate Who You Are
1 Thessalonians 1:5 “Our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.”
This is one of my favorite scripture verses. Paul tells the Thessalonians that they did not just speak about the gospel, they lived out the gospel and people knew it because of the way they lived their lives. Think about it, in this day and age movie stars, politicians, sports figures, and others have a public persona that is different from the way they truly live their lives. Sports are filled with doping and drug scandals with some even telling kids not to use performance enhancing drugs while using those same drugs themselves. Some politicians say anything to get elected, make promises they cannot keep and try to deflect attention from them to their opponents. We live in a do as I say society, not as I do.
The truth though is something different. There is an old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words. Now imagine your life as a picture for others to see. The best way we can communicate the gospel and the love of Christ is to demonstrate that love through our lives and our actions. Our actions must speak louder than our words and if we want to truly impact our world for Christ it means becoming a vessel for God to use. One of my favorite sayings is that not everyone will read the Bible but everyone will read a Christian.
Is your life attracting people to Christ or pushing them away? Make a commitment today to live a 1 Thessalonians 1:5 type of life, one that is not simply words but demonstrates God’s power and His purpose.
