The Desires of our Heart

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.” -Psalm 37:4

Does God truly give you the desires of your heart? You may say if God gives me the desires of my heart, why am I still where I am today, why am I single, etc.?" To understand this Scripture fully, it's important to put it in context. "Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him…" Psalm 37:5-7

God knows the secret petitions of our hearts. He knows the hidden dreams He placed in us. Talking to a friend yesterday we were discussing this very subject and I remember telling her, God even knows the desires we have forgotten about and she said yes. He even knows the ones we don’t realize we have. He knows the things you desire that you haven’t told anybody about. Maybe you thought they would never come to pass, maybe they seem impossible to you, or maybe you buried them because they didn’t happen on your timetable. But our God can do the impossible. Maybe, in the natural it may seem you have every reason to give up on those dreams. But Be Encouraged Today!

I know that God is wonderful at working behind the scenes and He still is! He still has a plan to bring your dreams to pass. Do what the verse says, “delight yourself in Him” every day! Delight actually means to make yourself soft and pliable. It paints the picture of God as the Potter and you as the clay. Allow God to mold and shape your character today. Allow Him to direct your plans and ideas. The Lord has given us many wonderful promises in His Word. Keep an attitude of faith and expectancy today, and as you submit your ways to the Lord and open your heart to His leading, He will fulfill those secret petitions of your heart!

God says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" -Matthew 5:8

Does God give you the desires of your heart? Yes, and even more. It may be different plans or desires than you ever thought you wanted. He has extraordinary plans when we simply put Him first in our life.

"Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen" -Ephesians 3:20-21
