United We Stand, Divided We Fall.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 “And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.”

The story of Nehemiah is interesting. Individually none of them would have ever exceeded at what they were trying to do. Yet because they banded together they were able to accomplish so much more against ever increasing adversity. A lot of times in our Christian walk, we may feel like lone rangers, maybe we are afraid to fail and be embarrassed, we feel superior to others because of our prayer lives/walk are stronger, or due to a lack of it try to go off by ourselves. Either way we set out to do things for God on our own and away from fellow believers. The thing is even though we are all unique we are all parts of the same body and each of us has an important part to play in this live. God’s not looking for lone rangers, he is looking for people who are willing to work together to change the world.

It reminds me of watching horses pull a heavy load. Individually a horse can only pull a small amount say 2,000 pounds. Now combined they can pull not just double the weight, but actually three times the weight they could pull individually. Then for those horses that have been trained and work to pull the load in tandem, they can pull four times the weight of one horse. Now that is pretty cool and it is applicable to our lives. When we work together, we can do so much more than when we work alone and when we have prepared and have a plan our efforts together are even more productive.

Here is the scoop. No matter how much we think we can do on our own, or how strong we are individually we are so much stronger working together as a team. Ecclesiastes 4:12 say, “And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.” The more people who stand with the purpose and plan God has given you the stronger it is. Today marks a choice, to work together to accomplish God’s purpose (be united) or to try to do it on our own (divided)? Which will you choose?

Today I choose to stand together, united, and in the words of Joshua claim, “For me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
