Humor, Joy, and Laughter

“A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” -Proverbs 17:22

Instead of only focusing on the things we need to work on in life I think we should also focus on being joyful. Have you ever wondered if God laughs?. Surely God must have a sense of humor. Since we are made in the image of God and we are creatures of laughter—He must laugh out loud!

The bible says the joy of the Lord is our strength. I know I’m most happy when I am laughing. The thing I find exciting about Heaven is that there must be joy and laughter around every corner. With all the seriousness of things that are going on in this world we must find joy. That is not always easy to do. But necessary. Right.? You can’t read the news on a daily basis and not feel the inward groaning of the Spirit at the hardships of this world. When I say we need to find joy I’m speaking of the laughter we share between family members and friends. Not the mocking laughter of enemies.

Life is hard and many times we’re compounded by sadness within us and all around us. I know we can’t deny our pain and frustration, but it’s important for us to remember we have access to the Holy Spirit who assures us of God’s presence in our lives. It’s unfortunate that our humor isn’t forced as much as a spiritual response to the pain around us. I will share with you a few of the things I do in order to resist the temptation to letting trials and troubles consume my heart. I act silly whether that be changing my voice completely, holding a smile with my eyes crossed when someone is being serious, I even act goofy with my children, dance crazy through the house, take the not so perfect selfies that most are afraid for the world to see and then share them. I do whatever I can to lighten and change the atmosphere because of the hope I have in Christ Jesus. Where there is Joy, Hope follows.

I don’t want to dwell in the sorrows around me. Do you.? I want to smile and believe a bright sun shiny day is ahead. That may sound childish to you but we are all God’s children. If for no other reason but just because you can, choose to laugh out loud because of His tremendous love and grace that is showered on us every day. There is joy in our day if we choose to find it instead of being consumed by all the sorrow. If our heart is full of joy we can experience a greater degree of healing from our pain. God’s healing ailments in include the medicine of joy, cheerfulness, and laughter. Laughter is the fruit of joy! The bible says  “He will yet fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouts of joy.” -Job 8:21

So today laugh and next time you laugh out loud, send up a “thank you” to our Father in heaven for the blessing of laughter.

Here are a few jokes I found online. I hope they make you laugh.

*Q: Did you know that they had automobiles in Jesus’ time?

A: Yes, the Bible says that the disciples were all of one Accord.

*In the beginning, God created the earth and rested. Then God created Man and rested.

Then God created Woman. Since then, neither God nor Man has rested.

*A married couple were arguing who is making the coffee, the wife said that in the Bible it says that men should make the coffee and the husband asked her where it said that. The wife opened the Bible and said: "Right here in HEBREWS!"

*Q: Why do they say 'Amen' at the end of a prayer instead of 'Awomen'?

A: The same reason they sing Hymns instead of Hers!

Have a Blessed Joy filled Day and if you have some good (clean)  jokes, please share them in the comments. I would love to hear them!
