What's On The Inside

“There is nothing that enters a man from outside which can defile him; but the things which come out of him, those are the things that defile a man.” -Mark 7:15

What is your heart saying right now.? What does it mean to defile yourself? The dictionary states that to defile means to damage the purity or appearance of/or spoil. Here’s an example, “we have allowed ourselves to be dirtied, to be defiled; and the worst of it is, that we have done this to ourselves.”

Those are some of the truest words. We defile ourselves! Even in the ways we think that we haven’t. Yes, The true source of defilement is a polluted heart that plots evil. What does your heart look like.? What is flowing from your heart and minds..? If your heart is not right, then you are doing some serious damage to yourself.

How.? By your thoughts and your actions. They are damaging your spirit! That means if you have thoughts of lust, inflicting pain on someone or something, revenge, pride, hate, evil thoughts, self sabotaging thoughts, etc. You are defiling yourself.! And it also includes the way you speak to others. What’s flowing from your mouth.? The bible says, ‘Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” -Matthew 12:34

God sees and hears everything that we do, from the words of our mouths to the thoughts in our heads to the matters of our heart. Did you forget.?

Let me ask you this, When God hears your thoughts what does He hear? Is He pleased? Or is He concerned with what is going on in your heart? Can He even see your heart that is covered with the filth of defilement?

Righteous living comes from the heart with love and in trust, more than through observance of an external code of ethics. As you are growing in Christ take a step back and re-evaluate yourself from time to time to make sure your heart is right. Consider questions like, “Have I sinned by what I have said or thought.?” “Am I defiling myself by what I think and say.?”

Isaiah 29:13, says that people honoured God with their lips but their hearts were far from Him. I don’t want to be like that. I want my heart conformed to God’s. Don’t you.?

Everyday ask God to help you to guard your heart, pray that your words actions and thoughts, every area of your life is pleasing Him. Remember that what you practice demonstrates your relationship with God.

Even if there is darkness within you, know that God can still see the light and He will reignite that light but only if you let Him.

It’s time to let God deliver you from your defilement.
