A House Divided Cannot Stand

“If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” -Mark 3:25

The enemy knows whatever he can divide, he can dominate.

After Abraham Lincoln’s term in 1849 he returned to Illinois to practice law. Then in 1858 He was nominated by the republican party for Illinois state senator. Addressing the State convention at Springfield, he gave the first of his memorable speeches. His huge hands tensely gripped the speaker’s stand, he declared slowly and firmly: “A house divided against itself cannot stand” but where did he get that phrase? He got it from Jesus.

By saying that a house divided cannot stand, Jesus is illustrating the fact that success relies on congruency. Whether it is a machine, a sports team, a government party, or one’s own mind, things have to work together if anything is to be accomplished. Why.? Because a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.-James 1:8 Even Paul appealed to the churches that there be no divisions among the believers. -1 Corinthians 1:10 Division creates obstacles contrary to sound doctrine.-Romans 16:17  We live in a divided country. Certain events bring it together, united we stand, then it fades away to division. We live in this world, a world of division, and change, but we are not of this world. We are separated from the world, by our belief in the word of God,and It will never change. And it will not fade away.

Jesus said, “Any kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and a house divided against itself will fall.”  We could go really deep in conversation about this considering all the division in the world and in the church.

As Christians we should be peaceful people. -Matthew 5:9. We are called to live in harmony with one another Romans 12:16 and, as far as it depends on us, to be at peace with everyone not basing things on race, origin, ethnicity, color, denomination, etc. -Hebrews 12:14

Jesus Christ is building His church. His “house” will stand; “His kingdom will not be destroyed, His dominion will never end” - Daniel 6:26

“I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one. I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me, and loved them even as you have loved me.” -John 17:20-23

It’s time to work together as one body.  Striving to build one another up instead of tearing one another down and wounding fellow believers, even for the sake of growing a mega church.

How can we fight the enemy if we are fighting each other.?

In all things, LOVE!

We need this today as much as ever.
