A friend loves at all times.. -Proverbs 17:17
Why are drawn to some people more than others? What makes us want to maintain a friendship?
Friendship is a life line. Connecting with like minded people who genuinely care about one another is a gift. Don’t take it for granted. Friends are people we feel good with.
Some make us laugh, some listen to our hearts, others support us when the going is tough and tell us the hard stuff, some just hang with us.
True friends are the ones who show us our strengths when we can only see weakness; they point out our good character traits, when we are down on ourselves and they do not lead us into sin. They remind us of accomplishments and encourage us on in our future.-1 Thessalonians 4:18 They will build into your life and you feel richer just by spending time with them and you go away with a stronger sense of “self”. - Ecclesiastes 4:9-10
Do your friends see the goodness you find in their hearts and in their character?
Have you ever said something being sarcastic and even mean in your comments with one another and then say I was just joking.? When you come away from a friend and admit that their words cut and hurt it’s time to evaluate your friendship. Be mindful of how those close to you see themselves through your eyes and how they feel after they interact with you? Make sure you are pointing out their strengths of character, listen and offer advice only if asked, respect different points of view, never betray trust, hold confidences with care, never manipulate by being intentionally controlling, needy or weak, deal with conflict, and cultivate warmth and caring.-2 Corinthians 8:7
Be gentle when honesty requires a hard look into a friends life. Build your friends in a way that challenges them to continue moving forward in their lives.
“Do for others what you would like them to do for you” -Matthew 7:12
Surround yourself with friends who will not tear you down all in the name of fun.
As Christians the Holy Spirit will give us wisdom and understanding in our relationships.
Father God, Show me if I have any friendships that are holding me back from being who you want me to be and help me separate from them in a loving way. Show me how I can give out grace in the situations around me. Help me to see the opportunities to be generous with kindness, forgiveness, compassion, a gentle response, a listening ear or time to just be with a friend that needs me. Thank You for being my Source. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
