The Fear of The Lord

(Read Proverbs Chapter 1)

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge”  Proverbs 1:7

God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight. Solomon was well known for his great knowledge, wisdom, wealth and power. The main purpose of the book of Proverbs is to teach wisdom to God’s people. Proverbs are short clever explanations that are easy to remember. This book will help you deal with life, principles, good judgment, and perception. Take your time to read through each verse as they give examples about the wise and the foolish.

A verse I feel has great importance is Proverbs 1:7. Fear of the Lord can be defined as “the continual awareness that God is watching and evaluating everything we think, say, and do” Nothing escapes his attention. We cannot possess wisdom by recreating God in our own image.  The wisdom that comes from God is pure, peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy, and bears good fruit, it’s impartial and sincere. -James 3:15-17

You can’t “tame” God into a non-threatening nobody or redefine Him as a god that makes us feel comfortable, a permissive “buddy” who exists simply to bless us and give us what we want. Why..? Because we will not be fearing Him in the way He deserves to be feared.

The Lord God Almighty is far greater than that, and the fear of the Lord begins when we see Him in His majesty and power. The Lord shows Job (and us) a glimpse of His power in Job 38-41 when He describes His absolute sovereignty over everything. Hebrews 12:28-29 says, “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” This verse brings to mind the song "ALL CONSUMING FIRE" By Jesus Culture. It's a pretty powerful song. Back on point...

When we fear the Lord, we don’t have to fear anything else.Without the fear of the Lord, we will make final decisions based on our faulty human understanding. It’s time to start making decisions based upon His approval.

Fall down in worship before God, then you are in the right position to gain wisdom. A man or woman who is intimate with God will never be intimidated by man. See life from God’s perspective and respond accordingly. Wisdom is a priority, and we are told to seek it above all else.

“The LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love.” -Psalm 147:11
