Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.-Hebrews 13:17
Do people your age have a hard time respecting authority?
As a parent I can tell you that when your kids don't show you respect, it is really hard. The thought of punishment always comes quickly first thought would be ground them until they are 30. We are suppose to instill the importance of honoring authority into our kids. That isn’t easy because of the lack of respect. At the same time, I know that even adults have more than a little trouble honoring the authority that's over our own lives. Remember the old saying, "Do what I say, not what I do?"
God placed an entire network of people in this world into positions of authority. Not just our government leaders, but also to the leaders in our schools, in our families, and our workplaces. Coming under authority and showing respect isn't easy because nobody wants to be told what to do or how to do it. Stop criticizing everyone that makes a decision you don't like. I know you feel like...It's not right. It's not fair. It's not good for me. Stop taking the right to free speech to an unbelievable level. Many people openly criticize our leaders, our country, our values, and pretty much anything else that doesn't line up with what they want. The problem is you need to take time to notice the wrong in complaining, whining, and showing disgust to anybody who will listen. -Philippians 2:14
Romans 13:1-3 says, "Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished. For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you."
Respect is a hard thing to come by and many people have a hard time accepting the fact that people have authority over them. But, as you can see, the Bible is clear that respecting authority is important—it’s demanded of us by God as the right thing to do.
Make the conscious effort to do what God says, regardless of how it feels. If you do you will plant a wonderful seed that will produce a harvest in your life. If you haven’t planted the first seed how can you expect a harvest blessing from the people who will respect and honor you.?
No matter how hard as it is, start planting!
