Actions Speak Louder Than Words

“If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person? Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.”- 1 John 3:17-18

I love God and I desperately want to always live my life according to that love in obedience to Him, but there have been many times I have caught myself living out of the selfish love I have for myself by putting my own needs above my relationship with God and the needs of others. I am trying to hold tightly to what He taught me about love and I feel the enemy constantly trying to take away what I have learned. God asking us to follow Him is a tough call. He knows it is easy for us to speak the words, declare our faith, and worship with our voice on Sunday morning. You should know He wants more than this. He doesn’t just want us to talk the talk. He wants us to walk the walk! -1 John 3:16-18

Don’t let your faith boil down to just a lot of good intentions. By saying I will try harder to keep my quiet times with God, to make better choices, to be a more patient person, to not gossip, to be loving,  I will make an effort to befriend a neighbor who spends time alone. This list could go on and on…

I know that the love I have for God is not always reflected in my actions, attitudes and behaviour. I daily ask forgiveness when I fall short. The bible says “So then, you will know them by their fruits.” -Matthew 7:20 That verse should stick in our minds daily.

How about you, Do your good intentions just turn out to be empty words and never becoming actions? Mine have at times and even the times I have went into action it was only temporary and quickly I return to my old ways. Christian love is the love of Jesus and this love was an active, living love. Jesus didn’t confine it just to words. Jesus put it into action. -John 13:34-35

Jesus showed love in the most selfless, intimate, tender ways. One of the most incredible unique characteristics of our God. Jesus tells us to love as He loved.-John15:12 It is by that love people will know our God.

What a challenge!

Put love for God and others into action every day by: worshipping God, doing daily quiet devotion, spending time with Him throughout the day, and by choosing to be obedient to His word. Love those around you who are unloved, forgive those who have hurt you, put others needs above your own, have a loving attitude and self control with family members.

Make Love the top priority of focus in your walk with God.

Soak in God’s love for you. Demonstrate the love you have for God. Follow His call to love others. You might mess up and make mistakes along the way, but if your focus remains on these things we will see love in action in your life and you will be known by your fruit.

Note to self: Your actions demonstrate the true conviction of your heart, both in your relationship with God and with other people.
