Run with Purpose!

Run with Purpose

Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”

We are all called to run in this race called life. Before we knew who Jesus was and began to develop a relationship with Him. We ran for ourselves and our own goals, desires, and purpose. Yet there was a day when we had to change what race we were running. For me, that day came 15 years ago. I ran a race that focused on self, what I wanted, what my flesh desired. Yet I had a life changing moment one April day. It was the day I looked at all the prizes and accomplishments. All the things I had done, including those I wasn’t proud of and realized there was more to life than the one I was living. I knelt down on my knees, crying as I turned in my old racing colors to begin running a new race, a race created, planned and purposed by God. The challenge became to not turn back, to not be distracted by my past sins and struggles. For some of us, Hebrews 12:1 may seem easy, get rid of everything that slows us down, every sin and every weight. But for others it is tough. Maybe it is a past hurt, hang-up or habit that we still struggle to let go of. Whatever it is, it is holding you back from accomplished everything God wants to be doing your life. Take a moment today to reflect on what is slowing you down in the race God has set before you. Allow God to bring to mind those things we need to let go of and begin to truly run the race God has called you to run. Remember, you were created with purpose so don’t let your past continue to determine your future!

"Lord, help me to become the person you created me to be. Reveal to me my innermost thoughts and struggles, bring to light anything that is not of you. Help me to see my past hurts, hang-ups and habits I have not let go of so I can turn them over to you. Strip off all the weight that is holding me back from fulfilling your call on my life and help me run with boldness and purpose on the path you have set before me. Amen"
