FAITH-HOPE-LOVE

“We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” -1 Thessalonians 1:3

Faith Hope and Love have been on my mind a lot lately. The Bible has a great deal of teaching on each of these three words, and the New Testament often places them within the same context , one of my favorites is ! Corinthians 13:13 “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”  I have been questioning what qualities they yield in our lives.

Do you recognize the unique significance that faith, hope, and love should have in the life of a Christian?

FAITH-James stated “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead” -James 2:17, so here Paul tells us that it is our faith in God which motivates and accomplishes good works in our lives. Work is produced by Faith. Are you saved? If yes, where is the evidence that you are saved? Do you have works that flow from your faith?

HOPE-It was the hope of salvation and eternal life with God that enabled Paul to bear the many hardships he faced. The man who was beaten, stoned, shipwrecked and imprisoned wrote, “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” -2 Corinthians 4:17 Endurance is inspired by Hope.  Rejoice when you hear of a fellow believer staying on course.

LOVE- is never passive, it urges us to act. Love prompts us to serve the least and lonely of this world, to pray for the brokenhearted and to the visit the sick. “Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres”-1 Corinthians 13:7 True love as being self-sacrificial rather than self-seeking. It seeks what is best for others rather than self and is based on God, who is love. -1 John 4:8  Labor is prompted by Love. Unless we are prompted by love for God and humanity, our labour will be meaningless. 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”

Faith, Hope and Love aren’t characteristics that we can keep hidden. They do not exist in isolation.

Which of these elements do you need to focus on today? We shall labor to serve God by making life better for people in our community. Faith, love, endurance and hope will produce unimaginable and uncommon results in your life.

Father God, I pray that you would build stronger in me faith, hope, and love. And I pray that everyone around me would know that You are at work because of all the good these characteristics produce in my life. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
