Don't Be Discouraged!

"Don't be discouraged"

Psalm 42:11 "Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!"

We all have moments in life where we feel down, discouraged or dejected. Life is not always about our mountain top experiences but also when we descend into the valley. While we may want to stay on the mountaintop we can't simply stay there desperately holding on to what God has done. We were not created to live in the past, God has so much more in store for each of us and living in the past will just cause us to miss it.

One of the things I have noticed in my life is that after great victories, tend to come great struggles and discouragement. Whether it is nitpicking the experience (focusing on the minor things that went wrong), attacks by the enemy trying to discourage me or simply leaving the mountaintop for the valley. Our most vulnerable time to feel down, dejected or discouraged is after God gives us a great victory. Maybe it is because we tend to let our guard down in the celebration or it is in those victories that satan realizes we are being used by God which makes us a threat. Whatever the reason the decent off the mountain into the valley can leave us vulnerable and discouraged Yet, it is in the valley when we feel most helpless that God helps us the most. God's not looking for the perfect person, He is looking to take imperfect people and use them to accomplish the impossible. The reality is when life is easy, we tend to focus less on God since we do not need to rely on Him as much as we need to during the hard times. The valleys of our life's journey are ultimately where God develops us the most. It is in those times we must choose to place our hope and trust in Him. It is also in those times when we see God moving the most as He brings us out of the Valley. Psalm 23:4 says, "Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me."

No matter what discouragement you may be facing today, place your hope in the good shepherd. He is right their with you, keeping you safe and taking you through the valley. Just remember once you are through the valley you will see the next mountain top God has for you to reach.
