Faithful God

“Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God (El-HaNe’-eman) who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.” Deuteronomy 7:9 -NLT

The other day while doing school with my kindergartner we talked about the importance of having a name. She laughed at the thought of no one having a name or everyone having the same name. I explained to her that in many books of the Bible, God chose names for people and He changed names if He had a special job for someone. We also talked about God and how He has many names throughout the Old and New Testaments. Each one defines one of His characteristics. El-HNe’-eman means our Faithful God. There is such peace in knowing that God is always faithful in His promises, grace, mercy, and He always desires to have a deep and intimate relationship with us.

At one point in my walk with Christ, I considered myself to be His faithful servant. I know now that thought was only based on the assumptions I made when comparing myself to others. I am glad God knocked me off that pedestal and brought to light the areas in my life where I wasn’t being faithful to Him. He showed me where I was being selfish, self-sufficient, and wasting time. I am so thankful for the relationship I have with Him now and for His correction and teaching. I praise God that He delights in being the One who is perfectly faithful when we haven’t been.  He has never had a selfish moment in His Love for us and He never will, and no matter how things might look, He is always working things out according to His perfectly good plan.  “Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He is faithful that promised” -Hebrews 10:23

He loves us and will always be 100% faithful to us, patiently teaching us how to be faithful to Him day by day.

If you lack confidence..The Bible says, “Faithful is He that has called you, who also will do it.” -1 Thessalonians 5:24 He will be your adequacy.

If you are fearful..He said, “I hem you in – behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.” -Psalm 139:5 He is  faithfully watching over you – behind, in front and overhead.

If you are facing an impossible task, discuss it with Him. The bible says “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we receive mercy and find grace to help us in time of need.” -Hebrews 4:16  He is faithful to answer.

If you have messed up and feel guilty the bible says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”-1 John 1:9

If you want to be more faithful to those you love, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you and direct you. “But the fruit of the Spirit is…faithfulness.” -Galatians 5:22-23 The Holy Spirit will produce faithfulness in you.

Don’t be shaken by your trials. All that God has promised for your life, He will perform. He is faithful!

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God” -Psalm 145:13

Father God, thank You for Your unending faithfulness. Help me to be filled with Your Holy Spirit. Let your characteristics shape my life. I want others see Your faithfulness in my actions and words. In Your Name I pray, Amen.
