Endure

Romans 5:3-5 “We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

We have all faced problems and trials in our lives or we will face them. We have a choice when those times come, we can rely on ourselves, our ability and determination, or we can rely on God and place our trust in Him. Trusting God though is not always an easy thing to do. Our circumstances can quickly get the best of us and we can get caught up in the storms of life and miss the light piercing through the darkness to lead us out. Psalm 66:10 gives us an idea about what God does when we face problems and trials.

Psalm 66:10 “You have tested us, O God; you have purified (refined NIV) us like silver.

Purifying or refining gold, silver or other metals is a unique process. The silver or gold is placed over a fire and impurities will slowly separate and come to the surface where the metal smith will scoop off the impurities called dross. With no more impurities coming to the surface, we might think the process was finished but the metal smith actually make the fire hotter. Which then allows more impurities to come to the surface and be skimmed away. These steps are repeated until no more impurities remained.

God does the same thing in our lives. Now He does not always create the circumstances, problems and trials we face but He uses them to refine us. Like the gold or silver, we all have impurities or things we need to work on in our lives. We will face trials and problems to help us overcome those things so they change from being a weakness to a strength. When we endure our character is strengthened, we trusted God in our problem or trial and He helped us through it. This strengthens our faith and trust in God.

No matter what you may be facing today. Remember God has your back and what satan may have intended for evil God can use to strengthen you and help you endure. We’ll be praying for you today.
