Love or Hate?

John 13:34-35 “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

Actions will always speak louder than words. Do you actions demonstrate the love of Christ drawing people towards Christ or do they demonstrate hate pushing people away. The truth is we can all get caught up in the moment about things we are passionate about. The question becomes are we responding in love or hate?

Our ultimate reality is we will not be viewed by people for a lifetime of achievements but for those moments when we intentionally choose not to reflect the love of Christ. It is what an unbelieving world points to and says, “If that’s what it means to be a Christian I want no part of it.“

We have two choices, one to be examples and a light shining in a dark, lost and dying world. To show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control (The Fruit of the Spirit, Gal 5:22-23). Our actions and attitudes can be used by God to draw people to Him because they want what we already have.

The other choice is to be examples of what not to do and cast more shadows in an already dark, lost and dying world. We can extinguish our light that could draw people to God and instead push them away by our hatred, cruelty, agitation, indifference, meanness, unhappiness and dishonesty. (These are the most common antonyms, exact opposite, of the fruit of the spirit. Check out Galatians 5:19-21 for Paul’s take)

Take a moment today to determine which fruit you are bearing and make the commitment to bear the good fruit found only in Christ (check out Matt 7:16-20, Matt 12:33, & Luke 6:43-45). No matter where we are in life someone is watching us, decide today to be the light that draws people to Christ and not the hand that pushes them away.
