You Are Forgiven!!!

Colossians 2:13-15 “You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”

Have you ever been somewhere where people continually remember and remind you of your past. When I was in school, teachers talked to one another. So advancing to a new grade meant that the new teacher already had expectations and knew my academic struggles. Even switching to a new school, like when I moved from Middle School to High School did not change things because fellow classmates were there to remind the new teachers of my past failures. Being in the military was the same way, everything we did was kept in our records, from test scores, rank, to reprimands and promotions. The past followed me everywhere I went. Truth be told the past became an ever increasing burden to carry until the day God made me alive in Christ.

Most of us remember our past mistakes and failures or we are reminded of them by our family and friends. We focused on them because we messed up and it is easier to tear down than to build up. We get stuck in the past and for most of us we forget about our successes and focus solely on our failures. The truth though is our past no longer matters. When God made us alive in Christ, all our past sins and mistakes were forgiven and forgotten by God. Think of it this way those records from school, forgotten. The only thing God looks at is our present and where we go from now, He has forgiven and forgotten our past. To Him, our past never existed once we were made alive in Christ.

The truth is we can’t change our past, but we can change our future. So quit dwelling on what you can’t change and start living for what you can. If you haven’t done it already make today the day you forgive yourself for your past and live the life God created you to live. Remember God has already forgive you of your past, now it is time to forgive yourself.
