Be Transformed!

Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

We have two choices in life. One can choose to copy the behaviors and customs of this world. We do this both consciously and subconsciously by the fads, styles, habits, music, words, entertainment and jokes we tell. Every time we turn on the TV, browse the internet, step outside of our house or look at our phones we are pushed to conform. Or we can choose the path less traveled.

Each of us is different and God created us that way. No two people are exactly alike. Just remember, God broke the mold after He created you, why because He see the value in who you are. He didn’t need a do over or to keep the mold because you are who He intended to create and are precious in His sight.

As a believer we are called to march to a different beat, His beat. It is not the same as the world’s and that is why the second half of the verse is so important to be transformed. The world wants to change you from the outside by influencing your life but God wants to change you from the inside out. To no longer think like the world does but to think more like God does. To show love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in every situation. This means:

Don’t allow bitterness and hatred to consume you over a past or present hurt. Allow forgiveness and God’s love to course through you.

Don’t allow pain, disappointment and sorrow to steal your joy. Allow God to give you a joy unspeakable that will get you through your darkest moments.

Don’t allow anger, anxiety, or animosity to consume you. Allow God’s peace which surpasses all understanding to give you calm and peace in the midst of life’s storms.

Don’t allow impatience and irritation towards someone to cause a hurt. Allow patience to flow out of you. Remember be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry.

Don’t allow your busyness to take away from helping others. Take a moment to demonstrate god’s love and kindness by helping someone in need. Be the good Samaritan.

Don’t repay evil with evil. God is your judge and two wrongs never make a right. Show love and goodness even to those who have hurt you.

Don’t worry your life away. God knew you before you were even born. He orders the steps of the righteous. Have faith in the one who is faithful. Your faithfulness and trust in God demonstrates who is truly the Lord of your life.

Don’t be harsh. Let the words of your mouth and meditations of your heart be pleasing to God. Turn away harsh words with a gentle tongue and show gentleness to those around you in your actions, attitude and speech.

Don’t lose control. We are all tempted and we have all fallen short of God’s glorious standard. The thing is if we want to defeat the sin and temptation we face in our lives we must master self-control. We have to learn not to give into our flesh but to resist. As we submit to God and resist the devil, he will flee from us.

Do not be conformed any longer to the world’s image of who it thinks you should be. Allow God to transform you from the inside out into who you are truly meant to be. Be the you, only you can be.
